Calcium and calcium salts are very important minerals used in food industry. Different calcium salts have been studied for decay prevention, sanitation and nutritional enrichment of fresh fruits and vegetables. Calcium lactate, calcium propionate and calcium gluconate have shown some of the benefits of the use of calcium chloride such as product firmness improvement 1. Nowadays, Potentiometry at a trace level is a routine technique. Ion-selective sensors with improved detection limits are investigated; these results in recent dramatic improvements of sensor selectivity and lower detection limit 2-8. Electro chemical enzyme based transducers are attractive due to their ease in detection of target analytes, high sensitivity, low cost, simplicity 9 .

A new, efficient Calcium ion selective electrode has been prepared using Vinyl acetic acid grafted PVC based ionophore. The influence of temperature on electrode potential was studied & it can be used in the determination of thermodynamic function like G, H & S. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique is also employed to study the electrochemical & surface reactions. It was also successfully used in the analysis of concentration of Calcium ion in various real samples.

A new, efficient calcium ion selective electrode has been prepared using mono ester and polyvinyl chloride. The electrode showed Nernstian response in the concentration range of 1 M to 1x 10-4 M with detection limits in the order of 10-4 M. The stable potentiometric signals are obtained within a short time period of 1 min. The effect of pH and the effect of medium have been studied and found to give a better response. Selective coefficient values were evaluated using fixed interference method. The sensor was applied as an indicator electrode for potentiometric titrations of Ca(II) ions with EDTA and also for the determination of calcium in milk and water samples.
