Abstract-An automatic traffic sign detection system would be important in a driver assistance system. In this paper, an approach for detecting Norwegian speed limit signs is proposed. It consists of three major steps: Color-based filtering, locating sign(s) in an image and detection of numbers on the sign. About 91% correct recognition is achieved for a selection of 198 images.
An automatic sign detection system could be important in enhancing traffic safety. Such a system would have to be able to provide high speed processing in its real-time environment. In this paper, we show how one of the time consuming parts of a speed limit detection algorithm can be implemented in reconfigurable logic to speed up the processing. Results indicate that the present system would be able to handle 12 images per second.
Abstract. An automatic traffic sign detection system would be important in a driver assistance system. In this paper, an approach for detecting numbers on speed limit signs is proposed. Such a system would have to provide a high recognition performance in real-time. Thus, in this paper we propose to apply evolvable hardware for the classification of the numbers extracted from images. The system is based on incremental evolution of digital logic gates. Experiments show that this is a very efficient approach.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
