Bagnold's bedload equation in the form q a (u -u.) 3 has frequently been employed to predict sediment mass transport rates in tidal flows and to assist with the interpretation of ancient tidal deposits. However physical considerations suggest that the form q a (u 2 -u~r)u is more correct. This latter formulation is therefore calibrated with experimental data, and the coefficient of proportionality is shown to be strongly dependent on the sediment grain size.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
