Abstract. An ophthalmic surgical drape with an ancillary breathing outlet is described and illustrated. It is believed that this drape will supply a needed emergency feature in current ophthalmic surgical drapes that will contribute to greater safety among elderly patients and give greater assurance to the surgeon who may experience a sudden interruption in surgery caused by an unexpected respiratory problem.
