EADS Group, created a few years ago, shows an example of a manufacturing activity which has been reorganized and which changes the principles of the spatial organization. Its plants and restructurations influence urban and metropolitan dynamics leading to a new trend of development which changes the link between a manu- facturing metropolitan area and its region.

Les territoires sont de plus en plus en concurrence. Les technopoles en sont une composante essentielle. Atlanpole développe une activité importante selon de multiples spécialités. Cette diversité, qui est à l'opposé de ce qui existe dans de multiples technopoles, s'avère peu favorable à l'émergence d'accumulations significatives d'activités dans un domaine d'excellence. La métropole nantaise est en retard sur ce qui se passe dans beaucoup d'autres technopoles, même implantés dans des villes plus petites. Cette stratégie risque donc de faire passer la ville à côté des réseaux technologiques qui l'intègreraient dans un réseau de métropole de rang national ou européen. The high technology industry is a fuzzy and controversial notion. What is to be defined (innovation, research, consequences on society and economy) is not accepted unanimously. Criteria that allow the study are imperfect and often questionable. The definitions offered by researchfor the past twenty years have therefore never been convincing nor final. It is necessary to look for new ways of definition coming from new foundations.

Innovation and information combined with ICTs constitute a new framework which questions the theories on the functioning of classic space and stresses the need to think of new frames. The principle of acentrality proposed here highlights the role of politics in the structuring of space, as well as the role of temporality. For public planning policies to be relevant, acentrality and temporality must be taken into account.
