A hybrid numerical method Q developed to sohe one-dimensioml phase change problem with the mushy zone. This hybrid numerical mprhod involues the control volume formulntion for the space domain and the Laplace tmnrfonn technique for the rime domain. I n the present study, nonlinear terms are linmnked by using the Taylor series appron'mation. The growth of the mushy zone is unlmown a priori ond Q predicted by using the least squares concept. To show the eflciency of the present numental method, uarious compamtiue emmples are ikstrated. It can be seen that erceUPnr agreement iF observed behveen present numerical resulls and those of early works.
