Competitive surfactant adsorption of anionic surfactant AOT and nonionic surfactant Tween 20 on gold was investigated by using a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) at 25 °C. The adsorption isotherm of pure AOT did not reach a plateau at the CMC, but rather adsorption continued to increase gradually at concentrations higher than the CMC before reaching a plateau. This behavior is evidence of competitive adsorption between AOT and impurities. The adsorbed layer of AOT on gold became more viscoelastic as the concentration of AOT increased. Tween 20 reached the plateau adsorption on gold before its concentration reached the CMC, suggesting that the attraction between Tween 20 and gold is very strong. The Tween 20 adsorbed layer was rigid when compared to the AOT adsorbed layer, as indicated by low dissipation. The addition of Tween 20 to a surface covered by AOT resulted in an increase in adsorbed mass, suggestive of the insertion of Tween 20 into the AOT adsorbed layer as expected because Tween 20 is able to separate the repulsive headgroups of AOT. When AOT was added to a preformed Tween 20 layer, a drop in the adsorbed amount was found between 0 and 0.1 CMC, and then no change was observed until the CMC of AOT was reached; the adsorbed amount then increased, reaching a final adsorption greater than that of pure AOT. All data support the formation of mixed surfactant layers on the surface. Although a two-step model fit both AOT and Tween 20 adsorption kinetic data well, AOT was found to adsorb much more slowly than Tween 20.
This study examined the effect of familiarity with the Huawei smartphone brand as a mediator between brand involvement and brand loyalty in China and explored behavioral and attitudinal loyalty as two major components of brand loyalty. An exploratory mixed-methods design grounded in the stimulus-organismresponse (S-OR) framework entailed two rounds interviews to build a hypothetical framework, following which 403 Chinese smartphone users were surveyed to test the hypotheses. The results of structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze the relationship between brand involvement, brand familiarity, and brand loyalty demonstrate that brand involvement exerted a direct effect of approximately 67% on brand familiarity, which in turn had a direct effect of influencing 47% of the ABOUT THE AUTHOR Zhiyuan Yu was born in Gansu province, China. During the COVID-19 pandemic, teleworking has proven to be an effective countermeasure to overcome the spread of this disease while enabling businesses to continue. However, little is known about the extent of their adjustment to daily life routine, interaction among self-control, assignments, family life matters, and coordination with colleagues. This study explores the impact of motivational factors on the performance of teleworkers. An exploratory study was conducted using an in-depth interview with 27 interviewees who work in Thailand and have more than a year of experience switching between being a teleworker and working on-site. The NVivo and SPSS software were performed to reveal deeper data insights and apply non-parametric tests in order to compare findings with various demographic profiles. The findings revealed that environment, time management, and reward are the strongest motivational factors, whereas labour intensity and job security present the weakest relationships with teleworkers’ performance. Numerous implications and strategies to enhance their performance for both organizations and workers are provided. Firms can support a well-prepared environment and manage the flexibility of working time to increase employees’ effectiveness. As a global pandemic threatens health and livelihoods, finding effective treatments has become a vital issue that requires worldwide collaboration. This study examines research collaboration and network profiles through a case study of coronavirus diseases, including both the extinct severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and the emerging species (SARS-CoV-2). A scientometric process was designed to apply quantitative tools and a qualitative approach employing technological expertise to accomplish a three-level collaboration analysis. The text mining software, VantagePoint, was used to analyze research articles from the Web of Science database to identify the key national, organizational, and individual players in the coronavirus research field combined with indicators, namely, the breadth and depth of collaboration. The results show that China and the United States are at the center of coronavirus research networks at all three levels, including many endeavors involving single or joint entities. This study demonstrates how governments, public sectors, and private sectors, such as the pharmaceutical industry, can use scientometric analysis to gain insight into the holistic research trends and networks of players in this field, leading to the formulation of strategies to strengthen research and development programs. Furthermore, this approach can be utilized as a visualization and decision support tool for further policy planning, identification and execution of collaboration, and research exchange opportunities.
