Indonesia is one of the countries with a majority Muslim population. The development of the inhabitants increasingly rapidly due to the development of education. Of the many education in Indonesia, which is the first education in Indonesia was a Pesantren. Pesantren itself is a nonformal institutions developed by one of the Ulama' or people who are experts in the science of Islam. Pesantren is the education which of a teacher and student live together each time, so that they are able to learn the most from life together. The reason this is what makes Islam is becoming increasingly developed with the education and distribution of Ulama' by the Wali Songo. So Indonesia become the country with the development of the world-Islam-an. development of Pesantren itself is from hope, who is in a residential neighborhood. In this study addressed an Islamic education which are in one of the city, with a growing Islamic education, located in Pesantren Darul Ulum Peterongan jombang. One of the developments from this Pesantren is when its Heyday, that in the year 1975. The method of this research is a descriptive qualitative that is describing a condition that exists in the location of the research with an interview to the informant. The results of this research is looking at the development of the existing settlement patterns at Darul Ulum boarding environment Peterongan Jombang.

   Tahfidz Islamic boarding school is a traditional boarding school that focuses on learning Islam and Quran. Recently, the need for this kind of school for junior and senior high school is increasing in Indonesia. One of the cities that has a high demand for that kind of education is Nganjuk. Nganjuk has many traditional Tahfidz boarding schools that are already running for decades. The design of the existing tahfidz schools is not suitable for modern life, while people nowadays search the school in a contemporary design. There is a paradox in this statement that people want a modern design for a traditional education method. The extending tradition design approach is the appropriate answer to this problem. This study aims to find the proper design for tahfidz boarding school using extending tradition design approach. The method for this design approach used tradition as the basic idea for the design and modified it to be suitable for modern society. The concept of the design is a tradition of togetherness, the culture of continuity, and tradition of socializing. The idea is appropriate for the tahfidz and the Islamic tradition values in modern life.

Perkembangan perkotaan pada suatu daerah pasti mengalami kemajuan seiring berjalannya peradaban manusia, sehingga pada umumnya perkembangan perkotaan tidak hanya berkembang secara kuantitas atau jumlah penduduk, melainkan juga dari segi perkembangan seni arsitektur, elemen-elemen arsitektur lainnya. Hal ini membuat peneliti merasa penting dalam hal mengkaji dan menganalisa terkait perkembangan perkotaan khususnya pada perkembangan perkotaan menurut teori dari Kevin Lynch yakni Image of the City. Hal ini dilihat dari perkembangannya pasti sudah sangat berbeda dengan teori dan penerapan di perkotaan dan kawasan suatu kota di wilayah tertentu. Hal ini juga mendorong peneliti untuk memetakan terhadap kawasan salah satu perkotaan yang ada di Jawa Timur, yakni kota Malang. Dikarenakan lokasi tersebut berada pada area yang mengalami pertumbuhan dan perkembangan yang sangat pesat, sehingga perlu adanya pengkajian dan pemetaan terhadap elemen-elemen perkotaan yang ada di kota Malang tersebut. Sehingga output yang akan diambil dari penelitian ini adalah sebuah layout kawasan perkotaan kota Malang dan detail elemen Image of the City.
