Attachment theory has obvious conceptual relevance for the child custody context. Further clinical research is needed to demonstrate the usefulness of attachment research measures; research of this kind may shed important light on the development and resilience of affectional bonds.
Strategies and specific measures for assessing attachment in infancy and childhood are reviewed. The review highlights that, although the evidence base for a number of measures is now strong, the incorporation of these measures into clinical practice has been slow. Some of the practical barriers to include attachment measures in clinical practice are considered, and ideas for overcoming these barriers are proposed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
