Recidivism rates for offenders constantly reflect disappointment. In an effort to reduce the rate of recidivism, the SSRI (selective seroton in reuptake inhibitor) medication paroxetine was attempted with a small group of offenders in a community-based program About half the offenders dropped out after one or two sessions, but 14 completed 3 months of treatment. These had a reduction in depressive and obsessive-conpulsive disorder symptoms, but it is difficult to determine the impact on the total rehabilitation program for the offenders. The implications for further research and clinical work are discussed
