This volume, part of the on-going Oeuvres complètes d'Alexis de Tocqueville, is the third and final portion of the Écrits et discours politiques, edited by André Jardin, the pre-eminent French Tocqueville specialist of his generation. This first part, published in 1962, focused on writings about Algeria and other colonies; the second which appeared in 1985 covered the period from 1839 to 1848 when Tocqueville served as Deputy from Valognes during the July Monarchy.
