Combinations of different plastic materials for use in gears have been studied experimentally. Both plastic/plastic and plastic/steel combinations of wheel and pinion have been analysed. Characteristic properties have been determined, and the material combinations have been evaluated and compared. This paper discusses the results of the experimental research and gives and outlook over further promising activities which could lead to new application areas for plastic gears.
