Communication is a human activity everyday, people always communicate each other. Sometime people do not realize what they are talking about. To make a good communication, human must follow cooperative principles. That is why Grice offers to use theory of cooperative principle to avoid misunderstanding and misinterpretation between the speaker and the listener. However, some people do not fulfill those maxims to be used in the conversation for certain reasons, and when they violate the maxims it is called flouting maxims. A descriptive qualitative approach is used for this study because the data are in the form of words rather than of numbers and statistics. This study reveals that based on theory of Grice’s Cooperative, there are four maxims which are flouted by the main characters of “Home Alone Part 2 ‘Lost in New York’” movie this movie since 1992 directed and written by John Hughes. The result shows that there are four Maxims Flouted by the main characters there are flouting maxim of quality, flouting maxim of quantity, flouting maxim of relevance, and flouting maxim of manner. And there are several reasons of flouting those maxims are data finding also revealed that the communication could still even though the main characters flouting the maxims. Four reasons by the main characters to flout the maxims are competitive, collaborative, convivial, and conflictive reason. In terms of types, quantity maxim flouting is in the highest rank and relevance maxim flouting is in the lowest rank. In terms of strategies, overstatement is the most frequently used and metaphor is the most rarely used. Finally, dealing with reasons for maxim flouting, conflictive reason has the highest rank in its occurrence.Communication is a human activity everyday, people always communicate each other. Studying the second language (L2) was happens around the world because of some reasons such as education. Studying another language can be important in intellectual human activities after studying first language (L1). However using L2 is quite hard because some of them use L2 just for some their activities, not for the whole of their activities, such as students who use English only when studying English subject only or on the contrary. Nowadays, some people use two language at the same time, which is called code mixing. The use of two codes for communication can help them to make clear their explanation from another language that they used. The purpose of this research is concerning on the use of code mixing in college students’ presentation in Intercultural Communication class. Apart from that, there is an attempt to find out the language dominate in their presentation, the reasons of code mixing use in their presentation and the response of the audience about code mixing in presentation. The Method use is qualitative by using class presentation as the instrument, the writer collected the data of the college students’ presentation, questionnaire to the audience and interview to the presenters. The research findings showed that the languages dominate in the presentation are English language and Bahasa Indonesia equally. The reasons’ student in use code mixing is to make the explanation clear, and the response of the audience is 56.83% of the students give positive response in using code mixing of the presenter.
Pragmatics is branch of linguistics studies that attracts the writer to learn more about it. This study aims to identify the directive speech acts performed in “The Fault in Our Stars” movie script. Moreover, this study investigated how often the direct speech acts performed and which type of directive speech acts that are most frequently used in the movie script. The writer uses qualitative research method by collecting data from read the movie script, analyzing the dialogues of each characters, watch the movie and read the library research. A total of 40 directive speech acts were successfully identified. The result of analysis shows that the illocutionary acts with directive speech acts of suggest is the most frequently in the movie script (3, 50%). The least frequently used locutionary with the directive speech acts of order in the movie script (0, 0%). This study is expected to give some useful insights in understanding what directive speech acts is. The writer hopes people can not only produce speech acts in their daily activities, but also understand why and how people react or response directive speech acts. This present research intent to discover the implementation of Virtual Reality (VR) media in supporting drilling strategy to teach English vocabulary to young learners modeled by a current teacher who is taking Independent Learning-Campus Merdeka (Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka or MBKM) as the participant of this study. She is holding a responsibility to teach English lesson to a school partnership. The school that is in partnership is Trikarya Public Elementary School of Cipanas district. This research collected the data through observation on teaching praxis using VR media. As the data were collected, the writer analyzed them. There were six steps in analyzing the data; (1) preparing the data to be analyzed, (2) reading or viewing all data, (3) coding the data, (4) generalizing the code, (5) creating tables based on the data code, and (6) interpret the data code. Over the observation the writers found a new procedure on implementing VR media in teaching English vocabulary to elementary students. There are three stages in this procedure that is called PMP. PMP stands for Pre-Activity, Main Activity, and Post-Activity. Furthermore, there are four activities in the main stage; Watch, Collect, Sharing, and Practice and hereafter is called WCSP. The last finding uncovers that the teacher is using drilling as the teaching strategy to activate the students.
Trademark is an identity of any company. Each trademark contains meaning which can be revealed semiotically from its signs. This research were aimed to find out the semiotic signification process on five famous streetwear trademarks consist of Supreme, Gucci, Bape, Off-White, and Champion, to investigate the meaning of the icon and symbol in those streetwear trademarks, and to observe the aspect that one of the other trademarks more dominant. This research used qualitative research design. The data of this research were five famous streetwear trademark consist of Supreme, Gucci, Bape, Off-White, and Champion, also some comments of respondents that have been gathered by the writer by using open-ended questionnaire. The participant were Instagram users. The time duration of gathering respondents' comments was one week. From the questionnaire, the writer found 127 respondents with their comments in one week through the open-ended questionnaire. In the research findings, the writer found that each of trademarks have signifier and signified with denotative and connotative meaning. The writer also found 5 icons and 5 symbols in 5 famous streetwear trademark consist of Supreme, Gucci, Bape, Off-White, and Champion which deliver some messages to their consumers. The result from open-ended questionnaire, the writer found that Off-White was dominantly chosen by the respondents. The writer also found that most of respondents chose their favorite brand based on the brand design. In conclusion, there is a significant effect between the design of the trademark/brand and the consumer interest.
