This paper examines the relationship between decision-making styles and values of Spanish adolescents and analyses the role of age and gender on their use of adaptive and maladaptive decision-making styles. The scientific literature suggests that decision-making consists of different stages through which individuals reach a solution to their dilemmas. An ex post facto quantitative, non-experimental research design was used and applied to a sample of adolescents of Madrid (España). The Flinders Adolescents Decision-Making Questionnaire (FADMQ) by Mann as well as the Schwartz Values Scale (SVS) were also used. Correlation analysis was used to analyze the decision-making styles and values of adolescents using the variables gender and age to classify the sample. The study concludes that adolescents who use an adaptive decision-making style tend to pursue mastery of the values Self-direction, Stimulation, Achievement, and Power, whereas adolescents who use a maladaptive style tend to shy away from the value Self-direction and are more conservative. In terms of gender, the results for both females and males coincide in the significant correlations found between their decision-making styles and values. In terms of age, the correlations between values and decision-making styles are higher and numerous in younger adolescents. We conclude that the relationships verified could help educators to engage and act on the development of specific decision-making training programs based on the values of adolescents.
La educación en valores es un proceso de aprendizaje que potencia el desarrollo axiológico de las personas. Desde este punto de vista, los modelos propuestos por Kohlberg (1976) o Molina (2012) sientan las bases para la planificación de programas de educación en valores. En el presente trabajo se propone revisar la evolución histórica de los modelos teóricos y metodológicos más importantes en la elaboración de programas de educación en valores. Con este fin se ha llevado a cabo una cuidadosa revisión de la literatura científica más relevante en bases de datos (PsycINFO, Psicodoc, ERIC, EBSCO, Social Services Abstract y Web of Knowledge). El resultado permite establecer comparaciones entre los diferentes modelos teóricos y determinar los puntos fuertes y débiles de cada uno de ellos, así como la exposición de los principales elementos metodológicos que intervienen en la educación en valores. De tal manera, se describen sus características así como los componentes de juicio para la selección de los valores teniendo en consideración a los destinatarios de la acción educativa.
This study aims to analyze the habits and attitudes of young people in Spain during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically regarding leisure and free time, framed within a context of the objective structural indicators of the economy, employment, and health. To this end, we reviewed official data banks and surveys conducted in Spain on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the general population. We performed a descriptive and longitudinal analysis with the aim of amalgamating the data on the general behavior of Spanish youth in terms of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their mental health and their positioning on the issues most important to them, especially in regard to their social relationships and leisure activities. Based on the results, we found evidence that young people were negatively affected by the impact of the pandemic, and, similarly to other age groups, reported high levels of concern about the demise of many of the aspects of their prepandemic lifestyles. Although their concerns mainly focused on leisure activities and social relationships, young people are the population group that suffered the highest anxiety levels during the pandemic. In relation to this, we highlight how the emergency measures adopted by society to fight against the spread of the virus were precisely aimed at restricting social relationships and leisure activities.
