The aim of this study was to assess the histomorphological features of the fourth rib and to develop age-predicting equations for Koreans. Sixty-four rib samples (36 males and 28 females) obtained from forensic cases were used for developing equations. Two thin sections (<100-microm thick) per sample were prepared by manual grinding. Multivariate analysis of covariance revealed statistically significant differences in age-adjusted histomorphological variables between sexes. Using stepwise regression analysis, osteon population density and average osteon area were correlated with unknown sex (r2 = 0.826), and sex plus two histomorphological variables provided the best results for an age-predicting equation given the assumption of knowing the sex of a specimen (r2 = 0.839). Average Haversian canal area had little influence on age estimation for male or female samples, and relative cortical area was not significantly related to age for any specimen.
This paper presented a simplified hardware architecture of the block cryptographic algorithm, HIGHT, for wireless applications like a RFID system. We have modified the original HIGHT algorithm that reduced the critical path in the key scheduler and dismissed redundant logics sharing encryption and decryption datapathes, and thereby yield a smaller silicon area. The proposed HIGHT supporting both encryption and decryption had 2,608 gates, 13% smaller than the original HIGHT design excluding decryption block. It consumes the average power 10.8 μW at 2.5 V for 100 kHz. It can be applicable to passive RFID tag without serious difficulty in size and power. Also, the maximum clock frequency of 125 MHz allows a data throughput rate of 235 Mbps that can support cryptography of high-speed multimedia data.
This paper proposes a new SHA-1 architecture to exploit higher parallelism and to shorten the critical path for Hash operations. It enhances a performance without significant area penalty. We implemented the proposed SHA-1 architecture on FPGA that showed the maximum clock frequency of 118 MHz allows a data throughput rate of 5.9 Gbps. The throughput is about 26% higher, compared to other counterparts. It supports cryptography of high-speed multimedia data.
Strain AP01 was isolated for the biological cypermethrin degradation from soil and sediment in Busan. This strain was identified on the basis of phylogenetic analysis of the 16s rDNA sequence and assigned as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens AP01. AP01 could degrade about 45% of cypermethrin in the mineral medium at 30 o C and 180 rpm for 5 days. Furthermore when 2% glucose was added in the medium, the degradation rate of cypermethrin by strain AP01 was increased upto about 60%. Therefore, AP01 may serve as a promising strain in the bioremediation of soil polluted with cypermethrin.
