Sunitinib alone was not inferior to nephrectomy followed by sunitinib in patients with metastatic renal-cell carcinoma who were classified as having intermediate-risk or poor-risk disease. In this study, RPN was less morbid than OPN, with lower complications, less blood loss, and a shorter hospital of stay. The intermediate-term oncologic outcomes were similar in the two groups.

Neoadjuvant TMT appears to have limited effects on renal tumor thrombi. This retrospective study failed to demonstrate a significant impact of neoadjuvant TMT on surgical management of clear cell renal cell carcinoma with inferior vena cava tumor thrombi.
