Spadella duverti n. sp. (familia Spadellidae, Chaetognatha) se
describe a partir de cinco ejemplares recolectados en un arrastre sobre
sebadales (Cymodocea nodosa) de la Bahía de Gando (isla de Gran
Canaria). Se trata de la tercera especie descrita a partir de material de
Canarias, después de Spadella nunezi (Casanova & Moreau, 2004) y
Spadella lainezi (Casanova, Hernández y Jiménez, 2006), lo que unido a la
especie de amplia distribución Spadella cephaloptera (Busch, 1851), que
ya fue mencionada en su día para las Islas por Hernández & Jiménez
(1992), eleva a cuatro la relación de quetognatos bentónicos conocidos para
el Archipiélago.
A new species of benthic chaetognath, Spadella lainezi n. sp.,
is described from 42 specimens collected in a cave of the coast SE of Tenerife
(Canary Islands, Eastern Atlantic). The species is the first chaetognath recorded
for caves on the Eastern coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
