INCOME ANALYSIS OF SMALLHOLDER FARMERS FOR BEEF CATTLE IN SOUTH WEDA DISTRICT OF CENTRAL HALMAHERA REGENCY. Objective of this study was to evaluate the income and factors affecting income of smallholder farmer of beef cattle on the high land and low land at South Weda district of Central Halmahera regency. Samples of these smallholder farmers were defined by purposive method based on high population of beef cattle. Quantitative data were analyzed by multiple regression model. Results showed that the average production costs were IDR 37,310,606.00 on high land location and IDR 25,597,372.00 on low land location. The average output of smallholder farmers from beef cattle were IDR 56,397,059.00 on high land location and IDR 38,475,000.00 on low land location. Therefore, their incomes were IDR 19,086,453.00/year on high land location and IDR 12,877,628.00/year on low land location. Result of multiple regression analysis showed that beef cattle stock variable (animal value at end of year) affected on the smallholder farmer income of beef cattle, while education and age of smallholders did not affect on their income at South Weda district of Central Halmahera regency. Key words: Smallholder farmer income, South Weda district Central Halmahera regency.

Ternak burung puyuh memiliki keunggulan antara lain kandungan protein 13,1% dan lemak 11,1% lebih baik dibandingkan dengan ternak unggas (ayam ras dan itik).Kecamatan Sonder merupakan salah satu kecamatan yang sudah memelihara ternak burung puyuh di Kabupaten Minahaasa. Mencermati usaha ternak burung puyuh yang dilakukan oleh petani peternak di kecamatan Sonder bahwa, sumberdaya pakan yang masih menggunakan pakan jadi (pakan pabrik) dan belum memanfaatkan sumberdaya pakan lokal tentunya berpengaruh pada biaya pakan yang cukup besar. Dengan demikian petani peternak burung puyuh di Kecamatan Sonder masih tergantung pada pakan pabrik sehingga perlu dilakukan kajian melalui penelitian apakah usaha beternak burung puyuh yang dilakukan oleh petani peternak di kecamatan Sonder memberikan tingkat keuntungan atau sebaliknya. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, maka rumusan masalah penelitian ini ialah apakah usaha beternak burung puyuh memberikan keuntungan bagi petani peternak. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menganalisis besarnya keuntungan dan biaya produksi usaha ternak burung puyuh serta mengetahui pola pemasaran burung puyuh.Biaya produksi dari usaha ternak burung puyuh di Kecamatan Sonder terdiri biaya tetap dan biaya variabel. Biaya tetap dalam usaha ini adalah sebesar Rp.76.721.125/periode produksi dengan rata-rata responden mengeluarkan biaya tetap sejumlah Rp.6.393.427/periode produksi. Biaya tidak tetap dalam usaha ini mengeluarkan biaya sejumlah Rp. 1.876.017.850/periode produksi dengan rata-rata responden mengeluarkan biaya tidak tetap sejumlah Rp.168.936.844. Keuntungan yang didapatkan peternak pada usaha ternak burung puyuh di Kecamatan Sonder disepanjang satu periode produksi adalah sebesar Rp.611.849.525/periode produksi, dengan rata-rata peternak memperoleh keuntungan sebesar Rp. 50.987.460/periode produksi.Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa usaha ternak burung puyuh yang dijalankan bisa memberikan manfaat atau keuntungan seperti apa yang diharapkan

An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of grow enhancer on duck egg production in Langowan region, Minahasa, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Total of respondents were 33 duck farmers and experimental design was perform using grow enhancer. There were two groups (treated and untreated duck). The result showed the egg productions volume of two groups were different. The treated ducks with "grow enhancer" in their feed showed 2 times increasing of egg production compare to the untreated fed ducks. There were significant differences (P<0.05) in egg production when used grow enhancer than without grow enhancer. The study indicates that there are great potentials for increasing the duck egg production in Langowan of Indonesia through modified formula of feeding (with grow enhancer) for ducks.
