To examine the contribution of visual-perceptual and visual-organizational factors to visual memory in amnesia, Korsakoff, medial temporal, and anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysm amnesics' copy, organization, and recall performance on the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure was assessed. Korsakoff patients were matched to medial temporal patients in terms of severity of amnesia, while the ACoA group, which was less severely amnesic, was matched to the Korsakoff patients on performance on executive tasks. Results indicated that while both the ACoA and Korsakoff groups had poorer copy accuracy and organization than controls, only the Korsakoff patients' copy accuracy was worse than the other two amnesic groups. While the Korsakoff patient's visuoperceptual deficits could partially explain this group's poor performance at immediate recall, the Korsakoff group's comparatively worse performance at delayed recall could not be accounted for by poor copy accuracy, reduced visual organization, or even the combined influence of these two factors.
Recent developments in federal legislation, reimbursement policies, and professional politics have promoted wider appeal within professional psychology for consultation services to nursing homes. This article outlines the need for counseling psychologists to be involved in such consultation. Results are reported from a survey of nursing home administrators that provides information about their perceptions of the mental health needs of both residents and staff, the problems they find most difficult to manage, and the intervention programs they desire. Recommendations are made for counseling psychologists to gain entry into the long-term care system as consultants.
A videotaped segment of a female therapist and female client was shown to groups of male and female undergraduates (N = 278) under six conditions. At the bottom of the screen one of the following six captions was presented: Dr. (name) and client, Ms. (name) and client, Mrs. (name) and client, Miss (name) and client, First and last name and client, and no caption. The students rated the therapist on 11 variables related to competence. Females tended to rate the therapist higher, and isolated effects for title were found; however, the magnitude of the differences was so small as to suggest that no important or meaningful differences had occurred.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
