The purpose of this study is to analyze the ten (10) selected legends of Region VIII, to construct a material in MTB-MLE. This study ensured to analyze the following: (1) theme, (2) symbolism, and (3) cultural norms. The content analysis method was used to probe the content of the selected legends, which are anchored on the Mimetic theory. It was found in this study that: in the theme, the people's adventures and endeavors, their protection and welfare, and the value of trust are emphasized the most. In symbolism, there are many differences in the symbols that appear in each legend. It has its meaning as to why it has become its symbol. And in the cultural customs, farming, fishing, and bartering dominate as the main livelihood of the people. Based on the findings, the conclusion formed that the selected legends reveal the theme, symbolism, and cultural customs contained in the selected legends of Region VIII. After knowing the analysis performed, the following recommendations suggest (1) encourage students to exchange ideas to better understand the theme and cultural significance of each legend, (2) review other local literary works so that they can be disseminated and used especially by teachers who teach MTB-MLE and literary criticism, and (3) collect legends from different regions and train students to analyze the themes, symbolism, and cultural practices of each legend.
