Synthesis of β-C-Glycosides of N-Acetylglucosamine via Keck Allylation Directed by Neighboring Phthalimide Groups.-A new synthesis of β-C-glycosides (V) uses phthalimides as protecting groups to control the stereoselectivity of a Keck allylation at the anomeric center. The glycosylation proceeds in high yield with excellent stereoselectivity. The multigram preparation of ( VIII) allows a versatile access to synthons required for glycoconjugate mimics. -(ROE, B.
