Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/silica nanocomposites were successfully prepared by in situ polymerization. Silica nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed in the process of polymerization. By means of hot-stage polarization microscope and DSC, the influence of nanosilica on the crystallization of PET/silica nanocomposites has been clarified. The results show that nanosilica does not behave as a nucleating agent in PET but postpones the appearance of crystallite. This phenomenon is very favor to improve spinnability. The investigation on melt spinning of PET/silica nanocomposites also shows that it is advantageous to spinning with descending the spinning temperature.
Matrix‐matched reference materials are necessary for accurate microbeam U‐Pb dating and Hf isotopic determination. This study introduces the RMJG rutile as a new potential reference material, which was separated from Palaeoproterozoic pelitic granulites collected in Hebei Province, China. LA‐ICP‐MS measurements indicate the RMJG rutile has extremely low Th (< 0.003 ± 0.01 µg g−1) and common Pb contents, but high Hf (102 ± 34 µg g−1), U (61 ± 11 µg g−1), and radiogenic Pb (~ 20 µg g−1) contents. Moreover, the rutile yields relatively constant U‐Pb ages and Hf isotopic data. The LA‐ICP‐MS analyses suggest that this rutile has a concordant U‐Pb age with a statistical mean 206Pb/238U and 207Pb/235U ages of 1749.9 ± 32.1 Ma and 1750.0 ± 26.4 Ma, respectively (2s), which are statistically indistinguishable from its ID‐TIMS ages (1750.6 ± 8.4 and 1750.1 ± 4.7 Ma). Precise determination of the 176Hf/177Hf ratio by MC‐ICP‐MS in solution mode (0.281652 ± 0.000006) is in good agreement with the statistical mean of the LA‐MC‐ICP‐MS measurements (0.28166 ± 0.00018). Therefore, the limited variations of RMJG U‐Pb age and Hf isotopic composition together with its extremely low common Pb and high Hf, U and Pb contents make it an ideal calibration and monitor reference material for LA‐ICP‐MS measurements.
A new industrial production method of 2,3-butanediol is discussed in this paper. C 2-4 bio-polyol is prepared by combining biological fermentation and chemical cleavage, with corn starch as raw material. In this industrial method, high purity 2,3-butanediol can be obtained after distillation and purification. Low production cost of this method provides an effective support for 2,3-butanediol large-scaled application.
Oil spilling has been a serious problem in the world for a long time, which can bring toxic substances to marine life. A large number of researchers around the world have introduced many measures to address this problem. One of the effective methods to remove oil from the oil/water mixture is to absorb oil from the mixture. Here, we prepared porous poly(lactic acid) (PLA) membranes using the electrospinning approach with different sized syringe needles, and used these membranes to absorb oil from the top of the water. It was found that the diameter of the needle has a big impact on the size and structure of the pores on the PLA fibers. The oil absorption capacity of membranes increases with a decreasing needle diameter due to the increased pore volume and specific surface area. The highest absorption capacity reached was 42.38 g/g for vacuum pump oil, 28.17 g/g for peanut oil, and 6.74 g/g for diesel oil.
Despite significant progress on the design and synthesis of covalent organic frameworks (COFs), precise control over microstructures of such materials remains challenging. Herein, two chiral COFs with welldefined one-handed double-helical nanofibrous morphologies were constructed via an unprecedented template-free method, capitalizing on the diastereoselective formation of aminal linkages. Detailed time-dependent experiments reveal the spontaneous transformation of initial rod-like aggregates into the double-helical microstructures. We have further demonstrated that the helical chirality and circular dichroism signal can be facilely inversed by simply adjusting the amount of acetic acid during synthesis. Moreover, by transferring chirality to achiral fluorescent molecular adsorbents, the helical COF nanostructures can effectively induce circularly polarized luminescence with the highest luminescent asymmetric factor (g lum ) up to 0.01.
