As an important part of a hotel’s internal environment, color design affects not only customers’ hotel stay experiences, but also their check-in experiences. However, how hotel guests’ emotional experiences are affected by interior color design is understudied in China. Drawing on the theory of color psychology, we designed a Virtual Reality (VR) experiment and a questionnaire to explore how hotel guests’ emotional experience can be influenced by the color scheme of hotel interior color design. The results show that hotel rooms decorated in yellow have a pleasurable effect, those decorated in gray a calming effect, and those decorated in blue a relatively neutral effect. Young participants have more negative emotional responses to rooms decorated in dark yellow. The emotional impact of both gray and yellow with higher grayscale values shifts from positive to negative with the improvement of customers’ educational background. Low grayscale color schemes are preferred over high grayscale ones, and indoor environments with synergistic colors are preferred over contrasting colors. It is also found that male subjects tend to have more positive emotional reactions to all color schemes than females. For most subjects, age and education have no effect on their emotional reactions to different color schemes. These findings have important implications for hotel interior environment color design.
The performance of reciprocating seals in rapping device of gasifier was studied through finite element method. The contact stress, Von-Mises stress, and friction power loss of O-ring and Sliding-ring combined Seal-ring were obtained. Meanwhile, the experimental study in performance of seal structures of rapping device were carried out. The results show that both of the seal structures are satisfied seal requirement, but compared with the Sliding-ring combined Seal-ring, the O-ring is easier to be destroyed and power loss of O-ring is higher than Sliding-ring combined Seal-ring. The results also verify the superiority of Sliding-ring combined Seal-ring in rapping device of gasifier.
Vibration responses of the water wall of coal gasifier under impact loads were investigated. The influences of different diameters of water walls and impact loads on the effectiveness of ash removal were further considered. The results showed that the peak acceleration along the axial direction of the water wall is greater than 80% of the peak acceleration at the impact point when rapping devices are installed at the 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 heights. Moreover, rapping devices should be staggered 30 degree in the hoop direction at different heights to avoid the dead zone of ash removal. Furthermore, vibration accelerations increase with increasing the diameter of water wall, while the impact time should be as short as possible for higher efficiency of ash removal.
This study aims to analyze the indoor environment preferences of Chinese urban elderly, to create a living environment that is beneficial to the physical and mental health of Chinese elderly, and to enhance their sense of well-being. Based on an in-depth study of 306 urban elderly’s bedroom indoor environment preference in 21 Chinese provinces, using questionnaire method, this study concludes that: (1) Group characteristics: for urban elderly, the key words for bedroom color and lighting preference are low saturation, bright, warm tones and warm white light; personal characteristics such as the gender, physical condition, and education have a strong correlation with factors in the indoor living environment; (2) Physical environment preferences: gender presents the most significant potential effect on elderly physical environment preferences; (3) Established indicator system: the indicator system includes five main indicators of basic bedroom conditions, bedroom materials, bedroom colors, bedroom physical environment and other soft furnishings, and 22 sub-indicators. This study has some implications for guiding the design of elderly’s apartments and the bedroom environment, as well as effectively using the indoor environment to meet the physiological and psychological needs of the urban elderly.
