The study investigates the case of a total
thyroidectomy, where after dissection multiple nodules showed two
malignant patterns by immunohistochemistry. Molecular analysis based on
DNA methylation profile was used to further inspect the origin of the
coexisting neoplasms. We confirmed the presence of malignant skin
melanoma involving medullary thyroid cancer.

Malignant melanomas metastatic to the thyroid gland are uncommon. Based on microscopy and DNA methylation profile, we report a rare coexistence of neoplasms in the thyroid, presumably in our case, with relapse‐free condition on adjuvant therapy.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
