Pumped storage units (PSUs) are an important storage tool for power systems containing large-scale renewable energy, and the merit of rapid start-up enable PSUs to modulate and stabilize the power system. In this paper, PSU start-up strategies have been studied and a new integrated start-up method has been proposed for the purpose of achieving swift and smooth start-up. A two-phase closed-loop startup strategy, composed of switching Proportion Integration (PI) and Proportion Integration Differentiation (PID) controller is designed, and an integrated optimization scheme is proposed for a synchronous optimization of the parameters in the strategy. To enhance the optimization performance, a novel meta-heuristic called Artificial Sheep Algorithm (ASA) is proposed and applied to solve the optimization task after a sufficient verification with seven popular meta-heuristic algorithms and 13 typical benchmark functions. Simulation model has been built for a China's PSU and comparative experiments are conducted to evaluate the proposed integrated method. Results show that the start-up performance could be significantly improved on both indices on overshoot and start-up, and up to 34%-time consumption has been reduced under different working condition. The significant improvements on start-up of PSU is interesting and meaning for further application on real unit.
This paper proposes a multi-objective optimization method for the start-up strategy of pumped storage units (PSU) for the first time. In the multi-objective optimization method, the speed rise time and the overshoot during the process of the start-up are taken as the objectives. A precise simulation platform is built for simulating the transient process of start-up, and for calculating the objectives based on the process. The Multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (MOPSO) is adopted to optimize the widely applied start-up strategies based on one-stage direct guide vane control (DGVC), and two-stage DGVC. Based on the Pareto Front obtained, a multi-objective decision-making method based on the relative objective proximity is used to sort the solutions in the Pareto Front. Start-up strategy optimization for a PSU of a pumped storage power station in Jiangxi Province in China is conducted in experiments. The results show that: (1) compared with the single objective optimization, the proposed multi-objective optimization of start-up strategy not only greatly shortens the speed rise time and the speed overshoot, but also makes the speed curve quickly stabilize; (2) multi-objective optimization of strategy based on two-stage DGVC achieves better solution for a quick and smooth start-up of PSU than that of the strategy based on one-stage DGVC.
With the development and application of 3D laser scanning technology, the efficiency and accuracy of 3D reverse modeling have been greatly improved. In this paper, 3D laser scanning technology is used to establish the 3D model of the hydropower house and main equipments of Fuchunjiang Hydropower Plant, which can truly restore the internal structure and equipments layout of the power station, and solve the difficulties in realizing the digital power station construction due to incomplete or missing drawings of the old power station. The 3D model of the hydropower house and main equipments of Fuchunjiang Hydropower Plant established in this paper not only forms the valuable virtual assets of the power station, but also lays the foundation for flood control emergency plan simulation and 3D maintenance training of the power station, which has a wide field of application with good prospects.
