Embedded systems development poses particular problems for the requirements analysis, design, test and maintenance phases. Consequently, environments supporting the complete lifecycle for embedded systems must address and solve these problems.The group characterized the particular traits of embedded systems which would lend themselves to support by a Systems/Software Engineering Environment. This led us to specify special requirements for such an environment and to recommend directions for research, environment development, and strategies for industrial technology insertion. This paper addresses these topics in this order.
