Methods to experimentally determine Henry's law constants (HLCs) can be roughly divided into two parts: kinetic and static thermodynamic methods. Here a dynamic method is presented, which combines the advantages and avoids the inherent difficulties of these two methods. A technical mixture of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) was analyzed and 58 PCB congeners have been reliably identified. In addition, 11 PCB congeners were found, which are less reliably identified. The measurements have shown that a systematic dependence on the chlorine number and substitution pattern can be established. This set of HLCs allows formulation of some estimation equations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
