The aim of this paper was to explore whether self-efficacy as teacher and researcher perceived by university lecturers was related to teaching styles and approaches. Two instruments were administered to 259 teachers at the University of Girona (Spain), who were active researchers and had a teaching workload of 9 ECTS or above. The results showed that self-efficacy as a researcher was the variable which yielded most differences. The higher the self-efficacy of the researcher, the stronger the belief that teaching was guided by research. Certain beliefs about the teaching-research nexus were very different according to the degree of self-efficacy as a researcher, while there were fewer differences in terms of gender and field of studyEl objetivo de este trabajo es observar si la autoeficacia como profesor e investigador percibida por los profesores universitarios está relacionada con sus estilos o enfoques de enseñar. Los resultados indican que cuanto mayor es la autoeficacia como investigador, más fuerte es la convicción de que la investigación guía la enseñanza. The main objective of this study was to observe the extent to which the practice of collective singing in children’s and youth choirs offers a way of teaching values. The main working tool used was a questionnaire that was completed by the choir conductors and singers of the different choirs surveyed. The purpose of the questionnaire was to assess if choral singing can be a space for working on and developing values, and if these values lead to improvements in the overall education of the person. On the one hand, choir conductors considered respect to be the most important value for a choral group and friendship the most valuable aspect for singers. This view was not shared by the singers, who considered friendship to be less important. On the other hand, they agreed on the influence of respect and communication and that spontaneity is undervalued.
Abstract:This article describes a technique for path unfolding for conditional branches in parallel programs executed on clusters. Unfolding paths following control structures makes it possible to break the control dependencies existing in the code and consequently to obtain a high degree of parallelism through the use of idle CPUs. The main challenge of this technique is to deal with sequences of control statements. When a control statement appears in a path after a branch, a new conditional block needs to be opened, creating a new code split before the previous one is resolved. Such subsequent code splits increase the cost of speculation management, resulting in reduced profits. Several decision techniques have been developed for improving code splitting and speculation efficiency in single machine architecture. The main contribution of this paper is to apply such techniques to a cluster of single processor systems and evaluate them in such an environment. Our results demonstrate that code splitting in conjunction with branch speculation and the use of statistical information improves the performance measured by the number of processes executed in a time unit. This improvement is particularly significant when the parallelized programs contain iterative structures in which conditions are repeatedly executed.
