Healthcare workers have been under intense stress in the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic when they faced situations that threatened or challenged their basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness, and they may present mental health problems. Seeking to help these professionals in the hospital context, this article presents the theoretical bases and procedures for the development of a psychoeducational booklet for coping with stress. An integrative literature review and an online survey with 141 healthcare workers from hospitals in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina were carried out to identify the main stressors and coping strategies. This material was organized according to the motivational theory of coping into charts with recommendations on what to do and avoid and boards for alternative communication. The booklet was evaluated by 17 expert health judges, obtaining good correlation coefficients for relevance content (.98) and for clarity of language (.92). With a Spanish version, its application possibilities are expanded.
Dancers experience daily pain that impacts their health, but the pain is mediated by coping with pain. We elaborated the Scale of Coping with Pain for Dancers (COPAIN-Dancer) based on the Motivational Theory of Coping with 12 categories of coping. This study presents the validity of the COPAIN-Dancer. The content analysis conducted judges reduced 118 items to 35, that were then administered to 386 Brazilian dancers between 10 and 19 years old (M=15.35; SD=3.36). Applying the Exploratory Factor Analysis, a low correlation resulted among the items that represent the 12 coping categories. However, after conducting Item Response Theory and Network Analysis, we obtained two factors: Adaptive Coping and Maladaptive Coping. The COPAIN-DANCER shows reliability and can be used in adolescent dancers.

Hospitalizations can be stressful for children, adolescents, and their parents, thus requires assessment and proper management. This study’s objective was to provide psychometric validation of the online version of the Escala Coping da Hospitalização, Adoecimento e Tratamento − Versão para Pais (COPHAT-P) [Coping Scale of Hospitalization, Illness and Treatment – parents version (COPHAT-P)]. A total of 98 Brazilian parents/legal guardians of hospitalized or previously hospitalized children participated. Participants completed a sociodemographic questionnaire along with the COPHAT-P and the Escala de Coping da Hospitalização − versão para cuidadores (COPE-H-Cuidador) [Hospitalization Coping Scale – caregiver version (COPE-H-Caregiver)]. Confirmatory Factor Analysis did not indicate a good fit. Three factors were extracted from the Exploratory Factor Analysis, which were further supported by network analyses. Convergent validity of the online version of the COPHAT-P was supported by its associations with the COPE-H-Caregiver, except for the “maladaptive coping” dimension. The online version of the COPHAT-P had high internal consistency (α=0.94). In sum, the online version of the COPHAT-P demonstrates satisfactory validity evidence.
