Serum EDN levels were significantly higher in subjects with EE than in controls, and the results suggest a possible role, after additional future studies, for serum EDN in establishing EE diagnosis, assessing response to therapy, and/or monitoring for relapse or quiescence.
This is the first study to examine CysLT levels in esophageal mucosal biopsies of children with AEE and normal children. CysLT levels in AEE patients are similar to those in controls, and independent of the severity of inflammation. While this would argue against the use of CysLT antagonists in the treatment of AEE, further studies into the expression of the CysLT receptor itself are needed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
