A study is reported on the incidence and pathogenesis of anemia among pregnant women in Trinidad. Findings showed that 34 per cent had hemoglobin levels less than 10 gm per 100 ml. Other related findings are analyzed. Routine administration of iron in therapeutic quantities is justified where microcytic anemia is prevalent and routine hematologic examination is not done.
