Cryptographic file systems ensure information confidentiality even in the presence of attacks which successfully circumvented the access controls of the underlying operating system. The paper presents our new system called GSFS which overcomes several severe deficiencies found in popular cryptographic file systems. In contrast to these systems GSFS offers a transparent group-based access control which supports a comfortable sharing of file between user groups. A prototype is available running integrated into the Linux operating system.
