The objective of this research was to examine how satisfied students are with the facilities and services provided by private hostels and identify the satisfaction factors that predict student's choice of a hostel. A descriptive, cross-sectional survey was conducted among 350 purposively selected students staying in private hostels in Ho Polytechnic, Ghana. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the predictors of the satisfaction factors. Results show that five factors "X2 (Security issues of the hostel)", "X4 (Availability of water facilities)", "X5 (Availability of electricity)", "X6 (Calm and peaceful environment)" and "X15 (Availability of toilet facilities)" were statistically significant in the prediction of students' satisfaction with hostel facilities and services with a predicted satisfaction rate of 98.03%. It is therefore recommended that there is a need for private developers to be engaged in a partnership scheme with the school management to construct more hostels on campus with current state of the art facilities which will meet the needs of the growing population of the students. Also, to attract students, management and developers of a hostel should provide an affordable hostel within a calm and peaceful environment with high level of security and availability of water, toilet and electricity facilities.
Inflation tends to be a relatively persistent process, which means that current and past values should be helpful in forecasting future inflation. Applying this intuition, we construct a basic stochastic model which exploits information embedded in past values of Ghana's inflation data. Therefore the aim of this study is not to identify the drivers of Ghana's inflation, but to identify and forecast with the best predicting model for Ghana's inflation, based on the stochastic mechanisms that governs Ghana's inflation series. We then use this identified model to forecast one-year-ahead (that is, 2018) inflation using past lags, specifically, monthly inflation, from January 2010 to September 2017. Per our forecast, the Bank of Ghana's aim of hitting a single digit for the year 2018 will not be realized, even though the year closes with a lower inflation than what it began with.
Ghana is struggling to become a middle income economy even with discovery of oil and gas in commercial quantity. The paper presented an alternative approach on how to rethink and develop Ghana using mix approach. In this paper, the researcher attempt to compare Ghana's GNI to her cohort especially China in 1963 and 2016 and how China developed with greater GNI than Ghana. We also examine the relationship between GDP growth and other factors such as Inflation, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Import and Export in Ghana. The researcher found FDI and Inflation to have negative relationship on GDP but Import and export have positive impact on GDP. We concluded that, Ghana must learn from developed world and tap from the experience of Chinese, should desist from exporting raw product and move from import economy to an export one like China in other to improve our balance of trade.
