SUMMARY This briefing examines the major developments in Nigeria’s automobile industry since 1960. It argues that inconsistent implementation of automobile policies reinforces the capacity of non-indigenous automobile manufacturers to dominate the sector, and concludes that consistent auto-policy implementation that promotes the interests of indigenous manufacturers is relevant for increased local production and sustainable job creation in the sector.
Postcolonial leadership is implicated in the distorted development and crisis of governance in Nigeria. The political leadership emerged from authoritarian traditions of the colonial state and pursued self-interests against collective societal interests; the mode of the emergence of the leaders as well as the context in which they operate usually impact on the nature and trend of social welfare provisioning. Relying on data from secondary sources, this study examined the impact of democratic governance on social service delivery with Taraba State and education as a case study. The data analysis was based on qualitative descriptive analysis. We found that the education sector under the two administrations between 1999 and 2014, was not prioritized in budgetary allocation, in contravention of UNESCO recommendation that 26% of the budget be dedicated to education. The study recommends, among others, that the government must show commitment to education as a matter of deliberate policy to allocate the required minimum percentage pecked by UNESCO to enhance educational development in Taraba state.
Electronic Governance has become an important tool for arresting the continued sophistication of the 21st Century security administration. This explains why virtually all countries of the world are keying into the programme to help curb the difficulties arising from the digitalization and internationalization of violent crimes. The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) has therefore become increasingly indispensable especially as it minimizes cost while encouraging efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery. However, while a lot of achievements have been recorded in other sectors of the Nigerian economy through the adoption of e-governance, its result in the security sector remains in doubt as the insecurity situation in the country especially in the north continues to deteriorate despite the application of ICTs in security administration. The study aims to know why the utilization of ICTs in security administration has not enhanced the protection of lives and property in Nigeria especially in the north. The work is a documentary research that utilized qualitative methodologies incollecting and analyzing data. Consequent upon this, the paper discovered that the use of ICTs in security administration has not enhanced the protection of lives and property in Nigeria because even the available security gadgets are grossly underexploited and sabotaged. The study therefore concluded that until the Nigerian government begins to adequately exploit egovernance through installation, utilization and maintenance of ICT gadgets in the management of national security, the insecurity situation will persist.
