The exploration of a relationship between the material environment design and the society is an important research topic in achieving environmental, economic and social sustainability. The main subject of the article is the interaction between the material environment and society. Research of the material environment coherence problems is based on an innate human right to live in a cohesive environment. Aesthetic and creative criteria are important in order to understand nature – man – environment system bonds embodied in forms of the material environment. Therefore, society, material environment, and the urban spaces should be understood as an integral whole and their relations must be clarified on all possible levels to ensure human space integrity. The reflection of harmony has many forms which are related to the artistic upbringing, social life, household aesthetic, environmental sustainability, and etc. The article is exploring contexts for the material environment optimization and the integration of an intuitive interaction principles by the method of literature review and survey. The goal of this article is to reveal the potential of the new methodical approach which may provide more opportunities for the material environment enhancement. According to the contemporary cognitive and design studies, an effective tool can be intuitive interaction forming techniques. The intuitive interaction may be optimized by integrating principles of the world's mechanical causality, human sensory and cognitive abilities. These agents can be effectively linked to convey information and to create intuitively perceived, suggestive interaction scenarios, hence, providing more universal applications to add aesthetically and functional value to the spatial expression of the material environment design.
Research in landscape architecture (LA) is an important area to improve natural, anthropogenic, social and economic sustainability. The focus point of the article is territory of historical greenery (THG) of LA, which originates as a result of interaction between material environment design and society. The study of THG problems today is based on the innate human right to live in a harmonious space of both aesthetic material and natural environment. Environmental quality criteria are important to understand the nature and human interaction embodied in LA as an expression of applied art. Therefore, urban spaces formed by the anthropogenic objects of LA, require studies of the systemic relationship between the material and natural environment and its function as a whole. Based on heuristic, qualitative and quantitative research methods and literature review of case studies, the article discusses the problems of interaction between contemporary society, historic legacy and natural processes. In this article, authors explore the natural human abilities to perceive and interact with the environment on the intuitive level. Universal design aims provide a value basis for social, cultural and functional interaction harmonization of the environment on the intuitive level. More universal and intuitive approach reveals the potential to enhance spatial interaction with the THG and to improve quality of its future management and development scenarios.
With the increasing functionality and complexity of the material environment it is becoming important to universally improve the quality of its shape design for people with different knowledge. When the material environment shape does not match its value content or acquire unpredictable meaning, it creates disharmony between the function and user that requires intellectual and / or emotional effort for interaction. The intuitive design improves user’s interaction because the information is presented on the subconscious level, hence it is accepted as a natural part of our environment and demands less effort to grasp and evaluate it. In this study, the scientific context of intuition is examined to determine methods and values of shape intuitive expression modeling. The goal of the study is to assess the effectiveness of shape experimental intuitive harmonization methodology using qualitative and quantitative methods. Functional and interaction restrictions are integrated into the object’s shape by employing experimental modeling techniques. Surveys, controlled observations and MaxDiff analysis were used to monitor intuitive harmonization effects on car body split-line and box shape physical models. Experimental results show that the majority of participants consider conceptual shape models to be more intuitively attractive and informative. The study concludes that it is possible and viable to employ a proposed shape intuitive harmonization variable to achieve a universally positive effect.
