Resumo: As cirurgias de castração estão entre as mais comuns na clinica de pequenos animais. Isto se deve a serem cirurgias simples, rápidas e economicamente acessíveis, sendo inclusive realizados mutirões. Além disso, seu objetivo de prevenir que animais tenham filhotes indesejados pelos donos, faz com que esta seja uma cirurgia realizada com muita frequência pelos cirurgiões veterinários. Porém, o pós-operatório deve ser realizado de forma correta a fim de evitar contaminação da ferida cirúrgica. Para tanto, o tutor deve conduzir adequadamente o tratamento instituído pelo médico veterinário. Este trabalho tem como objetivo realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre complicações pós-cirúrgicas na OSH, com ênfase em infecções, bem como relatar um caso acompanhado pelos alunos na disciplina de pratica clinica de pequenos animais, na Universidade Estadual do Ceara -UECE. This is due to be simple, fast and affordable surgeries, including joint efforts made.Also, your goal to prevent unwanted animals have offspring by the owners, makes this is a surgery performed very often by veterinary surgeons. However, the postoperative period must be performed correctly in order to avoid contamination of the surgical wound. Therefore, the tutor should properly conduct the treatment given by the veterinarian. This paper aims to conduct a literature review of post-surgical complications in OSH, with emphasis on infections and report a case accompanied by students in the discipline of clinical practice of small animals, the State University of Ceara -UECE.
