In the domain of high-speed impact between solids, the simulation of one trial entails the use of large resources and an elevated computational cost. The objective of this research is to find the best neural network associated with a new problem of ballistic impact, maximizing the quantity of trials available and simplifying their architecture. To achieve this goal, this paper proposes a tuning performance process based on four stages. These stages include existing statistical techniques, a combination of proposals to improve the performance and analyze the influence of each variable. To measure the quality of the different networks, two criteria based on information theory have been incorporated to reflect the fit of the data with respect to their complexity. The results obtained show that the application of an integrated tuning process in this domain permits improvement in the performance and efficiency of a neural network in comparison with different machine learning alternatives
Individuals with sensory impairment (hearing or visual) encounter serious communication barriers within society and the world around them. These barriers hinder the communication process and make access to information an obstacle they must overcome on a daily basis. In this context, one of the most common complaints made by the Television (TV) users with sensory impairment is the lack of synchronism between audio and subtitles in some types of programs. In addition, synchronization remains one of the most significant factors in audience perception of quality in live-originated TV subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. This paper introduces the Sub-Sync framework intended for use in automatic synchronization of audiovisual contents and subtitles, taking advantage of current well-known techniques used in symbol sequences alignment. In this particular case, these symbol sequences are the subtitles produced by the broadcaster subtitling system and the word flow generated by an automatic speech recognizing the procedure. The goal of Sub-Sync is to address the lack of synchronism that occurs in the subtitles when produced during the broadcast of live TV programs or other programs that have some improvised parts. Furthermore, it also aims to resolve the problematic interphase of synchronized and unsynchronized parts of mixed type programs. In addition, the framework is able to synchronize the subtitles even when they do not correspond literally to the original audio and/or the audio cannot be completely transcribed by an automatic process. Sub-Sync has been successfully tested in different live broadcasts, including mixed programs, in which the synchronized parts (recorded, scripted) are interspersed with desynchronized (improvised) ones. a b s t r a c tThe hotel industry is one of the leading stakeholders in the tourism sector. In order to reduce the trav eler's cost of seeking accommodations, enforce the return ratio efficiency of guest rooms and enhance total operating performance, evaluating and selecting a suitable hotel location has become one of the most critical issues for the hotel industry. In this scenario, recommender services are increasingly emerg ing which employ intelligent agents and artificial intelligence to ''cut through'' unlimited information and obtain personalized solutions. Taking this assumption into account, this paper presents Sem Fit, a seman tic hotel recommendation expert system, based on the consumer's experience about recommendation provided by the system. Sem Fit uses the consumer's experience point of view in order to apply fuzzy logic techniques to relating customer and hotel characteristics, represented by means of domain ontolo gies and affect grids. After receiving a recommendation, the customer provides a valuation about the rec ommendation generated by the system. Based on these valuations, the rules of the system are updated in order to adjust the new recommendations to past user experiences. To test the validity of Sem Fit, the validation accomplished includes the interaction of the customer with the system and then the results are compared with the expert recommendation for each customer profile. Moreover, the values of preci sion and recall and F1 have been calculated, based on three points of view, to measure the degree of rel evance of the recommendations of the fuzzy system, showing that the system recommendations are on the same level as an expert in the domain.
