An electronic nose can identify the presence of airway bacterial colonization in clinically stable patients with COPD.

VO is not the unique parameter to consider when CPET is performed to evaluate the postoperative risk of lung cancer surgery in COPD patients. The signs of ventilatory inefficiency such as VE/VCO slope predict complications better than VO does.

Obese and non-obese COPD patients show different determinants of aerobic capacity, including pulmonary and non-pulmonary factors that are also dependent on the type of exercise protocol. These results could be considered in the evaluation of obese patients with COPD.
