Technological change is a constant in academic libraries and how we assess our ability to learn and use new technologies affects the services that we are able to provide. This article offers an introduction to the concept of technological self-efficacy and its potential relevance to library workers. It also provides a domain-specific measurement tool and ideas on how to build technological self-efficacy in library staff. We also talk about crows, because…the crow knows!
L’influence de la subjectivité sur les processus de sélection en matière de numérisation n’a pas encore été étudiée en profondeur. La présente étude traite des facteurs subjectifs qui sous-tendent les choix des professionnels engagés dans des projets de numérisation ; entreprend une réflexion sur la manière dont ils prennent des décisions de sélection et examine dans quelle mesure leurs points de vue influencent les sélections. Des entrevues menées auprès de cinq professionnels des bibliothèques ou centres d’archives révèlent six facteurs subjectifs récurrents. La documentation de l’influence de ces facteurs apporte davantage de clarté, offrant une meilleure compréhension des objets numériques.The influence of subjectivity on the process of selection of documents for digitization has not been studied in depth. The present study discusses subjective factors which underlie the choices of professionals engaged in digitization projects; it also offers a reflection on the way they make decisions related to selection and examines to what extent their personal viewpoints influence the process of selection. Interviews with five library and archives professionals reveal six recurring subjective factors. Documentation of the influence of these factors offers clarity and great understanding of digitized objects
