The jury is generally a competent decision making body, rendering decisions that vary appropriately with the strength of evidence. Researchers have studied juries through mathematical modeling, using social psychological theory, and using explanation‐based models to understand the deliberation and individual juror decision‐making processes. In addition, researchers have examined how jurors evaluate individual pieces of evidence, finding that they may inaccurately evaluate evidence or can be influenced by extraevidentiary factors in decision making. Reforming the structure of the jury to increase their impartiality or aid their memories may help improve the quality of the jury's decision.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
