Computer Program ILT15 developed to accompany a new leach test for solidified radioactive waste forms in the Hungarian NPP Paks. The program is designed to be used as a tool for performing the calculations necessary to analyse leach test data, a modelling program to determine if diffusion is the operating leaching mechanism (and, if not, to indicate other possible mechanisms), and a means to make extrapolations using the diffusion models. The ILT15 program contains four mathematical models that can be used to represent the data, diffusion through a semi-infinite medium, diffusion through a finite cylinder, diffusion plus partitioning of the source term and solubility limited leaching. The program is written in C++ in the Borland C++ Builder programming environment.A detailed description of application of this modelling computer program is given.
Scintillators belong to the oldest types of radiation detectors. Nowadays, for spectrometric purposes the use of semiconductive detectors is more common, but scintillation detectors are still in use for various specific measurement purposes. We have investigated the dependence of a gamma spectrum measured by NaI(Tl) scintillation detector on temperature changes. We examined the need of energy or efficiency recalibration and software compensation. Due to temperature dependence, scintillation detectors require energy recalibration before environmental and outdoor measurements or before the use of etalon sources for obtaining spectrum for follow-up calibration. We have elaborated on a simple method for energy recalibration of scintillation detectors at different temperatures. This method was converted into an algorithm and it can be either burned into instrument EPROM or used in software processing.
In 2013 December, the SOMOS Environmental Protection Ltd. and the ELTE Eötvös Publishing Company published a new book dedicated to the safety of nuclear reactors and having analogous title (“Nuclear reactor safety”). For the readers of Academic and Applied Research in Military Science we want to present some considerations for reviewing the book.
The following publication summarizes the short history, fundamentals of Interna- tional Atomic Energy Agency’s Nuclear Security Culture programme in general and provides details of the recommended self-assessment methodology.A preliminary Nuclear Security Culture (NSC) self-assessment is presented on the basis of the 026 Nuclear Security Technical Document (NST) Draft in a special case of a radioactive material associated facility. Besides the purposes described in the 026 NST Draft, to test the level of the NSC level inside the facility and the problems, the roots of the problems and possible conclusions in it, the main goal was to test the conformance of the guidance itself and the preparedness and attitude about the security self-assessment of the facility. Even though the direct answers and the results are not allowed to be publicized, the conclusions will be instructive for associated facilities as well as for competent authorities.
