Development of the Student Opinion Survey is described in terms of construction of the initial item pool, sampling of items, formation of general and specific scales, and evaluation of psychometric properties. Internal consistency reliabilities, scale intercorrelations, and specific variances are reported, along with correlations with student characteristics and findings concerning convergent and divergent internal validity. From these data, and from data separately reported, it appears that the Student Opinion Survey is sufficiently reliable and valid for use in instructional diagnosis and, with due caution and supplementary information, in faculty personnel decisions.
