Lymphoepitheliomas are extremely rare outside the nasopharynx. Extranasopharyngeal lymphoepithellomas may be located in the stomach or digestive tract, and only one single case of esophageal location has been found in our review. In many cases the tumor is related to Epstein-Barr virus infection. We report a case of undifferentiated carcinoma of the distal third of the esophagus in a 79 year-old man. Pathological examination of the esophagus revealed an undifferentiated carcinoma with lymphold stroma (lymphoepithelioma). In situ hybridization of the neoplastic cells was negative for Epstein-Barr virus. To our knowledge, the present case is the first documented esophageal lymphoepithelioma in Western countries.
El cáncer oral es un problema de salud con el que nos enfrentamos todos los días en nuestras consultas. Los dentistas formamos la primera línea de defensa ante una patología que no ha presentado una mejora de los índices de mortalidad y morbilidad en las últimas décadas. La principal arma con la que contamos es la del diagnóstico precoz de la enfermedad, y esto es mucho más complicado de lo que parece. Para ayudar a los dentistas en la visualización de lesiones de precáncer o cáncer temprano han aparecido algunas técnicas o dispositivos de screening de cáncer oral basadas en la interacción de los tejidos orales con la luz. La técnica más extendida y estudiada es la basada en la quimioluminiscencia, intentaremos poner en claro algunos aspectos analizando los estudios que hay en la literatura actual.
A large number of solutions on electrostimulation were proposed in the last twenty years with the aim of looking after certain pathologies. They rely on the principle that electrostimulation of a neuron, muscle or another internal nerve is possible. In this context, this paper presents a solution of deep brain stimulator (DBS) having for aim to reduce the influence of the Parkinson's disease. This paper presents monophasic and biphasic electrostimulation topologies. The integrated system on chip solution was developped on 0.35µm standard CMOS technology. The silicon die possesses a size of 620x550µm 2 , with an improved battery life of about a week (ten times longer than the discrete version). The circuit has two terminals directly connected on the brain via two electrodes and two terminals to be connected to the coin cell battery (the only non under cutaneous part).
