Effective tailoring of pore sizes in mesoporous molecular sieves (see Figure) has been achieved by a novel method involving the restructuring of the mesopores under mild aqueous conditions. A studyis reported aimed at elucidating the underlying chemistry. It is suggested that further investigation could provide insight into natural biomineral resorption and lead to materials with enhanced biocompatibility characteristics

New nanocomposites are currently being developed that have real industrial potential—loading a polymer with a small (ca. 5 %) amount of inorganic nanoparticles (the Figure shows a polypropylene–clay hybrid composite) is expected to give rise to significant improvement to the materials properties with only a minor increase in cost. Recent developments in this area are summarized here.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
