REGULATORY MECHANISMS of c(-GLUCOSIDASES IN RAT EPIDI-DYMIS. Epithelial cells of mammalian epididymis produced acid and neutral o~glucosidases (a-G) which are either modulated by hormonal systemic infuences or by local factors arising from the rete testis fluid. In this study, ligation of ductuli efferentes in the rat was characterized by a modest elevation of both ct G 15 days after surgery. In adrenalectomized rats, both ~-G are lower than in intact animals. Because of the continuance of spermatophagia 2 weeks after ductuli ligation, the observed enzymatic variations cannot be ascribed to paracrine influences ; however, the effects of adrenalectomy on ~-G levels are obvious and may be attributed to a multifactorial endocrine control (androgens and corticoids).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
