Dynamic behaviour of bodies during impact is investigated through impact experiment, the simplest being a normal drop test. Normally, a drop test impact experiment involves measurement of kinematic data; this includes measurement of incident and rebound velocity in order to calculate a coefficient of restitution (COR). A high speed video camera is employed for measuring the kinematic data where speed is calculated from displacement of the bodies. Alternatively, sensors can be employed to measure speeds, especially for a normal impact where there is no spin of the bodies. This paper compares experimental coefficients of restitution (COR) for various sports balls, namely golf, table tennis, hockey and cricket. The energy loss in term of measured COR and effects of target plate are discussed in relation to the material and construction of these sports balls.
A viscoplastic coefficient of restitution (COR) that accounts for nonfrictional sources of energy dissipation is determined for direct collision between hard compliant bodies. This COR incorporates effects of both irreversible elastic-plastic material (rate-independent) and viscoelastic (rate-dependent) behaviors. The COR is calculated based on a modified Maxwell model for compliance of the bodies in the small deforming region around the initial contact point. Modifications to the Maxwell model incorporate the effects of plasticity and viscoelasticity, so the calculated COR gives a value that considers both hysteresis due to the plastic deformation and viscoelastic (rate-dependent) sources of energy dissipation during collision.
In this study, a mold is designed in single and dual type of gate in order to investigate the deflection of warpage for thick component in injection molding process. Autodesk Moldflow Insight software was used as a medium for experimental tested. Nessei NEX 1000 injection molding machine and P20 mold material details were entered in this study to get more accurate data on top of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) as a molded thermoplastic material. Taguchi orthogonal array, analysis of Signal to Noise (S/N) ratio and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were implemented to get the best combination of parameter and significant factor that affect the warpage problem for both types of gates. Coolant inlet temperature, melt temperature, packing pressure and packing time are the selected parameter that used in this study. A conformation test is conducted to verify the combination parameters optimized. From the result, multi gates used was founded that can decrease the deflection of warpage for thick product. From ANOVA, the most significant factor is melt temperature for single gate, and coolant inlet temperature for multi gate. Packing pressure and packing time were slightly influence on warpage problem for both studies.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
