A procedure permitting the use of flame photometers which do not have integral atomizer-burners has been developed for the determination of 0 to 10 p.p.m. of sodium in liquid hydrocarbons. The sodium is extracted by shaking the hydrocarbon with an equal volume of sodium-free distilled water. Sodium in the aqueous phase is then determined by flame photometry. The method has been
