-. A roll coater of the Opposing Targets Sputtering and the TEONEX® (PEN) film substrate were used to prepare continuous webs for Co-Cr-Ta thin film media. And surface roughness, microstructure and magnetic properties of the continuous webs were studied in this paper. The webs obtained under the argon gas pressure in the range of 0.15 to 0.75 Pa and the roll temperature of approx. 150°C, showed the following properties which will make the development of thin film media prospective on reliability and manufacturability. Microstructures in the Co-Cr-Ta thin films of 150 nm thickness were observed to be Co-rich particles of some 20 nm in diameter being packed densely and homogeneously, segregated by 2 nm-thick Cr-rich boundary layers. Surface roughness (Rmax) and magnetic properties of the webs were almost constant and showed high quality (Rmax < 10 nm, Hc.l ~ 1000 oe, HCII::;; 260 oe and Hk -4.3 koe).
Abstracts---Both axial runout and signal durability of a Co-Cr/Permalloy flexible disk with diameter 3.5", were studied using a disk drive with a pair of pads arranged in series relative to the disk radial direction, and with a single-pole type head.In the drive, the radial position of the head was 35 mm at disk revolution rates ranging from 600 to 1200 rpm, to evaluate the effect of the pad configuration on the runout characteristics and read-write properties. The runout of the disk were suppressed less than 10 ~m, and frequency spectra of the suppressed runout were observed up to ~ KHz. Stable read-write characteristics of the disk were observed in the high-density region over 70 kfci under a head pressure of about 3 mN and runout of less than 10 ~m.An out-put signal loss over 70 kfci was less than 1 dB after 7 million times of the head passes. No scrutches were observed on the disk surface and the head-pad sl iders after the durability test.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
