8230ABSTRACT Diagnosis of Embryonic death by determining Corpus lutea number in pregnant goat: an ex-vivo study. Objective: The objective was to identify luteal structures in pregnant goats and to conduct diagnosis of embryonic mortality in ex vivo. Methodology and results: This study was done in the slaughterhouse of Lubumbashi LD Kabila Market from March to June 2009, out of 500 local breed females. The ex-vivo examination of the female reproductive system allowed the observation of gestational state, taking into account the state of uterine horns and the presence of a pregnancy corpus luteum. The diagnosis of corpus luteum took into account the number and numerical presence and the left and right lateral embryo and / or foetus. Triplet pregnancies presented a low frequency (0.43%) compared with twin pregnancies (47.05%) and single (52, 2%). The expected prolificacy was 1.4 (679/500). The diagnosis of pregnancy corpus luteum was observed in greater number than the presence of embryos / foetuses and reflected the proportion of embryonic mortality (11.1%).Laterality left / right corpus luteum of pregnancy was possible to note the presence of 1-2 lutea on either ovary, but without highlight the triplet presence on an ovary. The left ovary was not significantly more active than the right ovary. Laterality could allow observing cases of pregnancy in the left horn (53.3%) and the right horn (46.7%).The presence of an embryo / foetus was accompanied by two Corpus lutea or bilaterally by both ovaries, unilaterally by each ovary. Cases with three Corpus lutea had low proportions.
Conclusion and application of results:In perspective, study on the local goat would reduce embryonic losses, to offset pregnancy losses at the slaughterhouse and to harness prolificacy expected profitability of farms.
