Toluene Dioxygenase-Mediated cis-Dihydroxylation of Aromatics in Enantioselective Synthesis. Asymmetric Total Syntheses of Pancratistatin and 7-Deoxypancratistatin, Promising Antitumor Agents.-Starting with the known whole-cell biooxidation of bromobenzene the diene (I) is prepared as substrate to prepare the vinylaziridine (IV). The latter represents the common chiral intermediate for the preparation of the title compounds (VIII) and (XIII). Surprisingly, treatment of oxirane (VII) with H2O in the presence of catalytic NaOBz causes cleavage of the Boc group (first example in H2O!), hydrolysis of the epoxide ring and debenzylation concomitant with ring closure. -(HUDLICKY, T.; TIAN, X.; KOENIGSBERGER, K.; MAURYA, R.; ROUDEN, J.; FAN, B.; J.
